On behalf of our volunteer Catechists, I want to welcome all families with children enrolled in R.E., RCIA, and Youth Group. We are thrilled to have your children in our classes every week. We can’t wait to share the Good News with them.
Each week, our students learn about Scriptures, especially salvation history and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, a summary of the vast knowledge and teaching of the Catholic Church. We also teach them the traditional prayers of the Church as well as how to pray in their own way. Most importantly, we try to help them have a relationship with Jesus Christ through example and word.
Encourage your child to tell you what they learned each Sunday and take an interest in the any materials, handouts, or letters they may bring home each week.
Please encourage your children to learn and help them memorize their basic Catholic prayers: The Sign of the Cross (using their right hand), the Glory Be, Grace Before Meals, the Hail, Mary, and the Our Father.
If your child is in second grade or older, please help them learn and remember the Apostles’ Creed and this version of The Act of Contrition .
Attendance is crucial for preparing for receiving the Sacraments. However, we offer classes for all children from pre-K3 all the way through High School graduation. Please, do not see the reception of First Communion as a “graduation” until time for the next Sacrament. There will be spiritual growth, witness, evangelization, and relationship with Jesus happening every year, every Sunday. So, please bring your children every year.
Contact me if you have any concerns or questions about religious education or the reception of the Sacraments at St. Philip Neri Church.
